Partonic transverse spin distributions and transverse motion are briefly introduced. The difficulties and requirements for experimentally investigating the transversity distributions h1q are discussed. In particular, direct access may be obtained via Drell-Yan processes with polarised protons and antiprotons (such as planned at GSI), while indirect information, obtainable thanks to the coupling of h1q and Collins fragmentation functions, is already being collected by HERMES and COMPASS collaborations. The issue of higher-order corrections in such processes is also discussed.

Abstract
Partonic transverse spin distributions and transverse motion are briefly introduced. The difficulties and requirements for experimentally investigating the transversity distributions h1q are discussed. In particular, direct access may be obtained via Drell-Yan processes with polarised protons and antiprotons (such as planned at GSI), while indirect information, obtainable thanks to the coupling of h1q and Collins fragmentation functions, is already being collected by HERMES and COMPASS collaborations. The issue of higher-order corrections in such processes is also discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
