The book proposes the outcomes of the first systematic research on the religious buildings of Casasco d’Intelvi between XVIth and XXth century. These real excellent expressions of Art and Architecture are investigated considering the urban transformations of Casasco d’Intelvi and the dynamics of the artist families who were born here. Members of dynasties as Ferradini, Ferrata, Gelpi, Caminada, Schera and Pedetti played sometimes both the roles of masters and patrons, sometimes one only in the reconstruction and decoration of their religious sites. The church of the brotherhood of Our Lady of the Mount Carmel is a remarkable example, for the abundance of its inner decoration, of the variety and versatility of stucco sculpture modelled by Lake Artists around Europe between Baroque and Rococo ages. The parish church of San Maurizio, of medieval origin, show nowadays mature Neoclassical forms, derived by its reconstruction in the middle of the XIXth century. Completion interventions took place also during the first half of the XXth century, supported by the generosity of the descendants of old masters dynasties who worked at this point in different continents: from Europe to South America. The architectonical and artistic history of Casasco d’Intelvi can be fully included in the wide phenomenon of the international activity of Lakes Artists during the Modern Age and beyond. They were artists which strongly preserved a complex web of relationships and economical interests in their native lands where they would come back periodically, if it was possible. Their direct participation in the building, decoration and improvement of the religious heritage of their native hamlet could be considered as a sign of devotion, membership and social status of extraordinary importance as revealed by the history of the churches of Casasco d’Intelvi reconstructed in this book. Finally, the book ends with historical information and pictures of the village.
