This paper traces the history of the Salesians’ film production, from the 1920s to the present day. Drawing on archival sources – mostly unpublished or little-known – and an analysis of the Congregation’s journals (in particular *Bollettino Salesiano*), the aim of this study is to highlight the distinctive features of Salesian film production within the broader context of missionary and Catholic cinema. The history of Salesian film production is traced through four stages: from its beginnings, through its relationship with Fascism, to the productive fervour of the post-war period, and finally to the challenges of today.
