Aim of this paper is to report the personal experience with the cabrol technique, from April 1991 to December 1997, for replacement of the aortic root and ascending aorta in 12 pts (mean age: 54 years). The indications were: true aneurysm of the ascending aorta with aortic insufficiency in 5 cases, aortic regurgitation with aortic root enlargement in 4 cases. Acute surgery was performed in 3 cases for type A dissection 1 case, atherosclerotic aneurysm complicated by rupture 1 case, prosthetic valve disfunction with aortic enlargement in 1 case. The overall operative mortality was 25%, all deaths occurred in acute group. The overall follow-up is 482 mounths, the mean observation time is 48 mounths, during observation time no related death or reintervention occurred.
