We reconstruct the paleoenvironmental history of the Rieti - Piediluco Basin during the late Holocene through geomorphological and archaeological investigations, integrated by exploratory trenching and radiocarbon dating. In particular, we recognize an early Iron Age rapid transgression and widening of the "Lacus Velinus" in the Rieti - Piediluco Basin, due to the growth of the Le Marmore travertine threshold. The age of this event coincides with the crisis in the protohistoric settlements in the area. This suggests that the lake highstand is one of the main reasons for such a crisis.

Abstract
We reconstruct the paleoenvironmental history of the Rieti - Piediluco Basin during the late Holocene through geomorphological and archaeological investigations, integrated by exploratory trenching and radiocarbon dating. In particular, we recognize an early Iron Age rapid transgression and widening of the "Lacus Velinus" in the Rieti - Piediluco Basin, due to the growth of the Le Marmore travertine threshold. The age of this event coincides with the crisis in the protohistoric settlements in the area. This suggests that the lake highstand is one of the main reasons for such a crisis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
