The present contribution offers a first insight to Directive2019/1 on National Competition Authorities. After a brief historical introduction, the analysis focuses on the main innovations provided for, as the establishment of such Authorities, their roles, competences and powers. For each topic, the contribution examines the reasons for the specific novelty and the impact of the new legislation within Italian legal system. Furthermore, a parallelism with EU Commission’s powers is drawn. Moreover, the article analyses the strengthened rules on the cooperation within the European Competition Network and between NCAs and national Courts. Finally, some considerations on the relationship between EU competition law public and private enforcement are offered. The concluding remarks focuses on the future implementation of the Directive, felicitating the recent development in the light of the decentralization of EU competition law public enforcement.
