In this paper an overview on the possibilities to re-use two residual substrates coming from the management and treatment both of the organic fraction and the residual fraction of the municipal solid wastes is presented. These residues are treated with an hydrothermal carbonization process, through which they are converted into a solid material, hereinafter called hydrochar, with interesting properties both for energy production and to use it as soil improver. The description of the process and the feasibility scenarios are presented in this paper.

Abstract

In this paper an overview on the possibilities to re-use two residual substrates coming from the management and treatment both of the organic fraction and the residual fraction of the municipal solid wastes is presented. These residues are treated with an hydrothermal carbonization process, through which they are converted into a solid material, hereinafter called hydrochar, with interesting properties both for energy production and to use it as soil improver. The description of the process and the feasibility scenarios are presented in this paper.
