L’ombra del padre. Il tormento della vendetta in Adelchi, Cid e Amleto

This study analyzes similarities and differences between the figures of Adelchi, in Alessandro Manzoni’s tragedy, and the Cid of Pierre Corneille, significantly close to some aspects of the Hamlet’s character, and between the figures of theirs fathers, eager for revenge whose fulfillment falls on the shoulders of their children. Through the analysis of the remarkable Manzoni’s comments on the Cid and their echo in the first version of the Promessi Sposi, it intends to observe the importance for the writer of the representation of the desire for revenge as a literary subject that leads to discovering pulsating motives of truth on man.

Lo studio analizza similitudini e differenze tra le figure di Adelchi, nella tragedia di Alessandro Manzoni, e il Cid dell’omonima tragedia di Pierre Corneille, significativamente prossime per alcuni aspetti al carattere dell’Amleto shakespeariano, e tra le figure dei loro padri, desiderosi di una vendetta che ricare sulle spalle dei figli. Attraverso l’analisi dei notevole commenti di Manzoni al Cid e della loro eco nella prima stesura dei Promessi Sposi (il Fermo e Lucia), lo studio intende osservare l’importanza per lo scrittore del desiderio di vendetta quale soggetto letterario che conduce a scoprire motivi pulsanti della verità sull’uomo.
