The essay advances the identification of a previously unpublished canvas, dated 1788 and signed by Angelica Kaufmann, preserved at the Royal Castle ofRacconigi, with the work dedicated by the artist to the Father General of the Theatins Gaetano Giusiana, and mentioned in the manuscript Memoria delle piture, published by Charles Knight in 1998. The commission for the painting is reconstructed as part of the Piedmont-born Father's network of relationships and cultural interests in Rome, including his friendship with Guglielmo Della Valle. The painting became a model for other sacred works produced by the artist in the last decades of her career.
