This research contributes with a sociological-anthropological analysis to animation theory, a discipline inspired by film theory but characterized by a historiography of only thirty years. In addition, the sociology of animation, unlike that of cinema, has been ignored for a long time for the reasons I explain in the discussion. More investigated by scholars have been the anthropologicalcultural aspects, which here too are referred to in support of the social theories proposed. Animation theory has seen an intensification of studies in the last fifteen years, with contributions coming mainly from Anglo-Saxon scholars and has even set itself as a starting point for a radical revision of the ontological concept of cinema. The report is divided into two parts, one devoted to the "technological medium" and the other one dealing with the "cultural medium". The first examines the socio-anthropological aspects, also with statistical surveys, relating to the communities of artists, authors, technicians, entrepreneurs involved in the production processes of what, thanks to the digital revolution, beside being a form of art is an industrial sector and a market in constant evolution, while the second focuses on the socio-anthropological influences exerted by the medium, including its impact on worldwide audiences by computer animation and virtual reality.

Abstract
The first examines the socio-anthropological aspects, also with statistical surveys, relating to the communities of artists, authors, technicians, entrepreneurs involved in the production processes of what, thanks to the digital revolution, beside being a form of art is an industrial sector and a market in constant evolution, while the second focuses on the socio-anthropological influences exerted by the medium, including its impact on worldwide audiences by computer animation and virtual reality.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
