The present paper analyses the rules on overriding mandatory provisions in the recent EU Regulations on patrimonial effects of marriages and registered partnerships. These rules are traditionally included in EU Regulations on civil judicial cooperation, and their formulation in the twin regulations follows the well-established approach. It is submitted that it is not easy to detect national rules satisfying the conditions set therein and overriding mandatory provisions will be barely applicable.

Abstract
