The essay examines the case of Juno Calypso, a young British photographer who specializes in self-portrait series. The highly homogeneous shots recreate sugary, baroque vintage imagery inhabited by her alter ego Joyce, a woman trapped in a laborious process of feminization and refinement. In the different series analyzed, domestic spaces, particularly bedrooms and bathrooms, chosen and used with extreme care, are played a central role. Through Calypso's lens, each room, from the grandmother's house to the Love Hotel's bridal suite to the Avon cosmetics patron's bunker, reveals its contrived nature as a hypertrophic set that accommodates the rigid enactment of selves performed by the woman. In her work, she alludes to the virtual, posturing intimacy of bedroom selfie culture.

Abstract
In her work, she alludes to the virtual, posturing intimacy of bedroom selfie culture.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
