The CO2 emission deriving from waste management is a significant issue. In this frame, it is relevant to study the release of CO2 in the transport phase, to compare it with the CO2 produced, for instance, through the process of anaerobic digestion applied to the Organic Fraction of MSW. Even if biogenic, this CO2 can be an opportunity to open towards innovative options of use or sequestration, if the extraction of biomethane is implemented. The case study is referred to a mountain area in northern Italy, investigating the CO2 generation from OFMSW management from the cradle to the grave: collection, treatment, and final use. The present and potential scenarios are analysed.
