This essay reconstructs, through unpublished archival documents, the history of the patronage and creation of the marble altarpiece depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus between Saints Ambrose and Charles (1950-1958), intended for the altar of the Cathedral of Milan. Originally derived from a project by Pellegrino Tibaldi and initially dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist, the altarpiece was later rededicated to the Sacred Heart. The analysis covers the architectural and statuary phases from the late sixteenth century to the mid-nineteenth century and examines the sculptural renewal of the altarpiece, which had previously housed two paintings added in 1642 and the 1930s. The new high relief, created by Edoardo Rubino (1871-1954) from Turin, is presented in detail, highlighting his involvement in the construction of the Ambrosian Cathedral.

Abstract
The new high relief, created by Edoardo Rubino (1871-1954) from Turin, is presented in detail, highlighting his involvement in the construction of the Ambrosian Cathedral.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
