The paper analyzes the topic of the restitution of artworks stolen by the Nazis during the last world war by examining regulatory sources, soft laws and the most significant caselaw. A varied overview emerges, demonstrating that there is a growing awareness among practitioners of the issue of restitution and the need for proper investigations regarding the provenance of the artwork, especially in cases of goods of suspicious origin.
