In the history of SETI it has been always maintained that one of the main problems in communicating with extraterrestrials is avoiding to be anthropocentric, since it could cause misunderstandings. In my present paper I suggest that also not to be anthropocentric may sometimes cause misunderstandings, since this issue, if exaggerated, could make the construction of interstellar messages much more difficult than necessary. Some traditional and well-known topics of SETI will be discussed, showing that, despite their generally admitted importance, they are, in fact, false problems (or, in any case, not so dramatic as usually thought), arising just from an exaggerated anti-anthropocentric attitude, which is not justified by what we know about both physical universe and intelligence, but it is only due to the influence (largely unaware) of our relativistic contemporary philosophy.

Abstract
In the history of SETI it has been always maintained that one of the main problems in communicating with extraterrestrials is avoiding to be anthropocentric, since it could cause misunderstandings. In my present paper I suggest that also not to be anthropocentric may sometimes cause misunderstandings, since this issue, if exaggerated, could make the construction of interstellar messages much more difficult than necessary. Some traditional and well-known topics of SETI will be discussed, showing that, despite their generally admitted importance, they are, in fact, false problems (or, in any case, not so dramatic as usually thought), arising just from an exaggerated anti-anthropocentric attitude, which is not justified by what we know about both physical universe and intelligence, but it is only due to the influence (largely unaware) of our relativistic contemporary philosophy.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
