The case of a 15-year-old girl with Epstein-Barr virus infectious mononucleosis complicated by splenomegaly and traumatic splenic rupture with haemoperitoneum is described. She was treated with splenic embolization, blood transfusion, antibiotic therapy and vaccination/antibiotic prophylaxis for hyposplenism.
