In order to examine the contexts in which the Russian lexical unit там appears and the functions it performs - both deictic and modal - a parallel bilingual corpus was created, consisting of works by contemporary authors writing in Russian and stylizing colloquial speech, together with their corresponding translations into Italian. The systematic comparison of findings from the scholarly literature with data obtained from the analysis of literary texts made it possible to identify the functional uses of там and their main semantic equivalents in Italian.

Abstract
