The use of insults is a common phenomenon in all languages and is becoming increasingly evident in network-mediated communication and urban linguistic spaces. Insults are deeply stigmatized linguistic elements, often marginalized in language research. Within linguistic studies, insults are typically classified as hostile speech acts, and few research contributions have addressed this significant and widespread area. More specifically, hostile speech acts constitute a relatively small area of applied research, particularly in the field of educational linguistics. Therefore, after addressing the definitions of linguistic space and insult, this study will classify the insults found in graffiti on public walls in the provinces of Varese and Como, using a bottom-up approach to analyze them from different perspectives.
