This essay examines the phenomenon of sexist insults in the urban linguistic landscape of the provinces of Varese and Como, aiming to highlight its pragmatic, linguistic, and discursive characteristics. More specifically, the analysis of a corpus of 244 graffiti texts collected on city walls between 2021 and 2024 demonstrates how the sexist insult functions as a device for exclusion and delegitimization, reinforcing gender stereotypes and symbolic inequalities within the social space. The research, which integrates various levels of linguistic analysis, reveals that from a semantic perspective, hate speech is predominantly directed against women and the LGBTQIA+ community, primarily focusing on the categories of morality and anomie. A significant finding of the study is represented by the intersectionality of this hate discourse, where the sexist insult frequently overlaps with ethnic, religious, or political hate markers. Wall writings, including those aimed at public figures, act as an amplifier and a ground for the sedimentation of hierarchies and a patriarchal, binary, and stigmatizing vision of individual identities and society. Ultimately, the study confirms that hate speech in the public space is a predictive indicator of the dominant culture’s perspective and its inherent power dynamics.

Abstract
Ultimately, the study confirms that hate speech in the public space is a predictive indicator of the dominant culture’s perspective and its inherent power dynamics.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
